Peoples first reactions to our news of selling our family home & deciding to travel for 12 months was “ARE YOU GUYS MAD” followed by “Wow, what an adventure!”
While one night sitting at home, with the daily grind of a thing called ‘life’ eating away at us. We came up with the idea of taking our family of 5 around Australia in a caravan for what we think will be 12 months! We had to sell the family home to help us fund the trip, so the next day Christian said he was all for the idea. He then called the realestate and the house was up for sale the following week! What a crazy whirlwind of emotions it was, not only had we poured our blood, sweat & tears into the place, but we also had brought our 2 youngest little babes home from hospital there. The house had memories. Our first home, our first renovation we ever did, and something to show for our hard work and determination those past 3 years.
We only had 4 days to let it sink in that we were actually doing it before we got the call that the house was SOLD. We couldn’t believe it, but knew it was faith, and just meant to be. Over the next 90days we packed our lives into boxes. Culling everything we thought was useless and what we wouldn’t need for life in the van! How good the feeling was throwing all the crap away.
We went on and got rid of our Toyota Prado which I was sad to sell, but had to be done to allow us to be able to tow that dream caravan. We brought a 2017 Mazda Bt50, which over the next few weeks I would find out it was also known as the ‘money pit’. We had to fit it out with all the mod cons that would come in handy for the big trip. To say I hated getting the car fitted with all these things would be a lie, because it does make the car look the part.
As settlement neared the emotions were overwhelming and we couldn’t help to wonder if we had done the right thing. Once we moved everything out of the house and fdrove off for that last time, we felt a huge weight had been lifted off our shoulders. We had actually done it, we had sold our very first home, the home we had saved for 6 months for, renovated top to bottom, and spent the past 3 years coming home and enjoying life with our beautiful 3 kids.
We are now wanderlust nomads, about to embark on the trip of a lifetime with one another and all those feelings of doubt have since gone.
